Southington Elementary
Counseling Collaborative
Welcome to Southington Elementary Counseling Collaborative!
The Southington Public School System received a three year, 1.2 million dollar Elementary School Counseling Grant, in August of 2013. It will provide 5 additional school counselors in our elementary schools. These grant funded counselors will be implementing the Second Step curriculum in all elementary classes. Additionally, the grant provides parent workshops on topics that will include, behavior management, social/emotional reasoning, kindergarten readiness, and much more! Lastly, through this grant, grant counselors will be trained in the Incredible Years, a curriculum that offers programs for parents, teachers, and children in reducing challenging behaviors and increasing social and self control skills.
Events & Workshops-
Second Step
This is a fantastic program! Our goal is to increase students' school success and decrease problem behaviors by promoting social/emotional competence and self regulation skills. In the 2015-2016 school year we will be teaching this curriculum in all grades, K-5! Every elementary student in Southington will receive a weekly developmentally appropriate classroom lesson!
